The research seeks to explore Kingston University students’ attitudes towards the available Web 2.0 services that were created to enhance online student communication and collaboration. The recently implemented cross-university social network of Kingston University ‘One Community’ and the ‘social media’ are the focal point of this dissertation. This exploratory research analyses the data collected via an online questionnaire, and provides statistics that depict the sample’s engagement with these Web 2.0 applications and constructs the ‘Social Technographics Profile’ of Kingston University’s students. The research identified that most of the participants have never visited the One Community social network while many ignored the social network’s very existence. The research also identified that the participating students are mostly consumers of online information and only a low percentage are actively generating or contributing to knowledge on the Web. The findings of the research suggest that students are not willing to interact and engage with the social media over university related activities unless the benefits of doing so are apparent.
